The Rose Room
The Rose Room
The Rose Room is the only guest room on the first floor, and is often reserved for those who have difficulty with stairs. Also, since it is convenient to the parlors, it is frequently used as the bride’s dressing room.
The furnishings in the rose room feature an ornate walnut Victorian bedroom suite. The bed is nine feet tall and has beautiful burled walnut panels. The dresser is almost as tall, and has white marble surfaces and candle-stands. The matching commode also has a marble top. All three pieces have brass pulls decorated with cherubs. Since the Rose Room has no closet, (common in homes of this period,) an unusual mahogany half-armoire with a full-length mirrored door serves for hanging garments. All of the original paintings and prints depict roses except for a large tinted photograph of a little boy. All of the lamps are of the period, and one is a Handel lamp with a painted shade. Even the chandelier is decorated with porcelain roses.
As might be expected, the wallpaper has a rose theme. A lovely oriental rug covers the oak floors.
The Rose Room has a full modern bath with shower and tub. Guests often remark about about the unusual ornate medicine cabinet. Click on a picture if you wish to make it larger.
